This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a beginning teacher in Hampton, VA. I will be teaching roughly 20 precious and energetic 1st graders. My students are creative and outgoing and most of them come from low-income households. My students are eager to learn and are always looking for fun and creative ways to learn.
I would love to give my students the opportunity to use flexible seating to increase performance and engagement in the classroom.
I believe that students should have flexible seating in the classroom in order to help with motivation and student engagement.
My Project
In first grade, we often work in small groups to target math and literacy. My students participate in 20-30 minute rotations each day. It is hard for first grade students to stay motivated and engaged during their rotations, but the requested comfy pillows, Wobble Chairs and Balance Ball Seats will help my students stay engaged during these rotations. It will also allow my students to move about the room in order to complete their independent work in a comfortable setting. The comfy pillows, Wobble Chairs and Balance Balls will also allow the students to get their "wiggles" out when needed during our small group time.
Focus is key in First Grade and these stools and seats will help my students who may need extra wiggle breaks or movement to make it through the day!
