Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When kids sit still all day long, their minds start to wander with boredom and their young bodies get restless and fidgety. The equipment I am requesting will provide an opportunity to get students up and moving instead of sitting all day at school and then in front of the TV at home.
As an early childhood teacher, I feel it is important to start my students on a path to health and fitness. However, it is more than just a matter of health and fitness; exercise also facilitates academic success by bolstering self-confidence, energizing the mind, and through activities that promote academic skills such as math and language development. For example, a ring toss game will not only increase fitness and coordination, but also math skills. Creative movement CD's will help develop listening skills. Furthermore, team activities will increase social skills such as cooperation and teamwork.
Since regular movement is so important, I have set aside a block of time each day for my young students to get moving. The equipment will facilitate active movement both indoors and outdoors, and will be shared with other classes. I will use the equipment with careful planning to promote a healthy habit of regular exercise as well as increase academic and social development.
