Our art students come from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science, and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives. Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving. We are a busy classroom!
My Project
Our students have asked for new playground equipment and Hokki stools! We work hard in the classroom and play hard on the playground! Currently, their playground equipment is not in the greatest shape; it is old, worn out, and well used (loved). When I asked what new games they'd like to try, they said they'd like some new playground balls and new games such as cornhole and frisbee golf. They also said they'd like to try out Hokki stools in the classroom since they've heard so much about how they help calm the wiggles while inside.
RMS students like to involve all levels/abilities of play on our playground and are great about including everyone.
With these new playground games, our students said they can work on social skills and be active at the same time. We have a large playground space and there are often times where all grades, five through eight, are on the playground at the same time. You can see fifth graders playing with eighth graders and all abilities working and playing together. The students say they love this about our school. The new games will only increase involvement and play!
RMS students have asked for a few Hokki stools, too! They know the Hokki stools will help them add to their sixty minutes of activity by promoting balance, core strength, and allowing us to move in the classroom! Help us reach our goal and help keep us active in and out of the classroom setting!
