Let's Get Moving - Outdoors for Research and Science
My students need need portable devices for many of our science projects. These light weight devices will allow me to take students out of the normal classroom, and observe and research outdoors!
We are a public charter school, Title I school, and the majority of our students come from low income to average families. The students receive free breakfast and lunch from school and many do not have monies to purchase their school supplies needed for school each year.
We are a community based school, and have about an 83% Native American population.
We aim to blend learning and culture in our classrooms. Students in my classroom work very hard and come to school eager to learn every day. There's nothing more motivating than to see students walk in with a big smile and positive attitude every morning
My Project
With my funded project, my students will have the opportunity to take the small devices outdoors to research, take photos, and observe, and come back to the classroom to talk about their findings. This will go along with all lessons for the curriculum. It would make it much easier for them also rather than having to carry pencil and paper, and it will make the experience more interesting.
Lets get moving, is the theme for this project, because having small devices for the students to use outdoors would give them the mobility they need to become science explorers outdoors.
These small devices will also allow students access online to discover I-Dive in 360-degree videos, the most basic form of virtual reality, a full sphere of video centered on the spectator who can view an environment in any direction. The content works with Virtual Reality headsets but is also available on browsers and mobile devices. It’s a more interactive way of exploring everything from distant countries to underwater shipwrecks with a 360-degree angle.
Students will also have access to use the free Aurasma apps (Android/iOS), which allows students to overlay real-world objects with digital graphics, including posters and doorways. It might sound complicated, but it’s easy to use. When viewed through Aurasma and a tablet’s camera, targeted post-it notes and classroom displays can launch photos and videos or interactive graphs and charts.
