This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a energized and persistent group of 10 girls and 7 boys! I am a new teacher this year and I am truly blessed to be teaching them 4th grade. We are located in the Englewood community where crime and violence plague the streets. Many students in our community face many challenges such as poverty, trauma, and inefficient living conditions. I am moved with passion when I see my students overcome these challenges and push themselves to succeed and do their best everyday.
We are a family in room 317 because we help each other and support one another, and I love that.
I know that they want to do well for me their teacher and also for themselves. As a team, we will finish this school year strong and on top.
My Project
My students love to read and they really enjoy when I read to them as well. Each day students are required to read for 1 hour. Once in the morning and again after lunch. Unfortunately, because we don't have a comfortable seating area for my kiddos, they are forced to sit in hard chairs and do their reading. This can be difficult because we all know that reading should be relaxing and done in a calm and inviting space. With these giant pillows, my students will get to focus more on their great book and less on how uncomfortable they are.
