Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm with a Special Needs self-contained third grade. Now that's a mouthful and a handful. The children range from ADD, ADHD to Autistic, ED (Emotionally Disturbed) and Learning Disabled. Every day is a new beginning with these shining stars. They're amazingly curious and full of wonder. This world is a strange place and these little darlings are just beginning to find their place in it. Their curiosity and their simplistic view of life amaze me daily. They have the capacity to love freely and trust me with their tender hearts. I don't take that lightly. My stars are hard-working and full of energy. Some of them are on medication to control their impulsive behavior and outbursts. All of them hold the keys to my heart. This will be their first state testing year. I've got to reorganize and redirect their energy. They'll be crammed into a small room and I must find a way to make their learning environment functional, inviting and suitable for their special needs.
My Project
Our room is very small and with the book baggies we can organize our library usage by keeping the books we're reading in the bags while we read them. The caddy organizer can keep our materials organized and the pouches and laminates can create reusable materials. All of these items will facilitate the flow of learning for my Thundercats. With less clutter and supplies readily available the children will establish a sense of Independence. When they feel independent their confidence levels boost and their productivity increases. Autism,ADD,ADHD and ED are difficult and limiting. The more freedom and sense of achievement I can provide, the greater the growth and learning experience. Help ius REACH FOR THE STARS!
