Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Who? - What do they do?" say the young students in my class as we begin to discuss the community helpers in our neighborhood. Unfortunately some of my students will not fully comprehend who and what certain community helpers do unless they can get into character and act out their jobs.
My school consists of many low income families, ELL students and students with special needs.
With budget cuts and increased class size, the need for hands-on materials are even more important. If I am to answer the "Who" and "What" questions I need the tools to make it come to life in the minds of my students. They need to experience learning in different ways . One is through acting. As they role play, they are learning kinesthetically. In order for me to connect to each student I need to teach in different ways because students learn in different ways.
My Project
Who? - What? are questions you probably ask yourselves as well. Who am I helping? What will they do with the materials I fund? Well let me tell you. You will be helping young minds to comprehend the importance of community helpers. This may inspire my students to become a community helper in the future. The hands-on materials will be used during social studies and will also be available during center time. When wearing the costumes they will get into character and act out the duties of the community helpers. During this role play students will not only feel like the character - they will be using vocabulary related to that job. So it's not only acting - it's "learning". The puppets will help my students create shows for each other and to share with other classes. As they "play" - they will be learning the importance of each community helper's job and I will be able to assess what they are learning.
The resources you help fund will enable my students to learn the importance community helpers have in our neighborhoods.
They will learn vocabulary connected to the social studies unit of study. These hands-on materials are imperative in having a lasting impact on the young minds of my students. These children are our future and we need to prepare them using the tools that will help them to learn. These materials will help my students this year and many students throughout the years.
