My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin. As a teacher, I have worked hard to help my students gain clarity and understanding through multiple entry points. Students learn and greatly benefit from different approaches to teaching and learning.
The students in my classroom all bring something different to our environment.
They come from different backgrounds, share different talents, and are able to contribute in different ways to the learning that takes place in the classroom. We learn from one another, and help others to understand using different techniques and approaches to the topics. Our school works to find the best way that each of our students learn, and work with one another to ensure that we are reaching every individual student in a way that makes sense to them. Our students understand material in a variety of ways and together, we work to combine the pieces of information that each of them gathers in order to develop a more collaborative understanding.
My Project
With an iPad in our classroom, my students will be able to practice different skills from a variety of subjects and make connections to the material through interactive Apps and educational games. Often times, instruction occurs through reading books, having discussions, and showing posters or videos to supplement learning. The opportunities available on the iPad can add interactive games that while students are having fun, they will also be learning and practicing different skills - either in math, reading, writing, or other subjects such as science and social studies. Children in today's society are very much exposed to technology and some of their lives revolve around iPhones, iPods, video games, etc. Since many of their interests are surrounded by technology, an iPad will capture their attention and they will enjoy the experience of using it. iPads are a source of many different activities and learning opportunities and students will be playing and learning at the same time.
Donations to this project will help provide supplementary instruction and skills practice for students, especially those who have trouble with verbal instruction and benefit from interactive games and activities.
When learning is fun, it doesn't seem as much of a chore and this really engages some students. Games and activities on the iPad can be found at all different levels appropriate for differing students needs. The iPad will serve as an additional source for learning and practicing.
