This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have a diverse student population that includes both 7th and 8th Graders! Our students are strong, resilient, and creative. Many of our families are considered low-income, and we are in are a Title I district. We are proud to have students who take pride in learning.

My Project

I would like the ability to plan a Poetry Slam at my site. I need to have instructional materials to work with students and be able to reference so that they can learn about the art of spoken poetry. I want my students to know that they are many ways to express and feel emotions and many people use words to do just that. I would like to give them opportunities to play with magnet words, be inspired by other writers, and by each other. Students will be able to learn about poetry and write while at home during distance learning.
