Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play, they learn how to learn". This quote accurately represents the students in our classroom. Our 1st grade classroom consists of 8 children with the primary diagnosis of Autism. They have very unique sensory, emotional, communication, and social needs.

Children with autism require an environment with diverse opportunities to learn and display their knowledge of skills.

Creativity and having a vivid imagination are just a few of the many skills these children have. Given the diverse learning needs of my students, I strive to motivate them to become life long learners.

My Project

A common goal for my students with Autism is to behave appropriately in school, home, and community settings. It is important for my students to learn daily functional skills. They show success through repetitive, routine-based, and structured play settings along with independent exploration.

Functional play gives my students with Autism an opportunity to learn how to function appropriately in the community.

With these cooking, cleaning, and environmental supplies, my students will engage in peer interaction increasing appropriate language and social skills. These supplies will help my 1st grade students learn and maintain these important daily functional skills for a lifetime.
