Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low income English language learning school where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our scores are at the bottom 5% statewide. Many come from homes with little or nothing regarding print, text, and technology. They are very sweet kids who are excited about learning.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.

They come to school with the idea that things will change: they will change, their future will change, their lives will change.

My students attend school in Arvin, CA and go to school for a better life and future. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything. I want to expose them to all I can, making the world more real and their futures brighter. We are in this together!

My Project

Classroom environment is crucial in student learning. It is so vital for students to understand that they are safe and important, especially when they come from difficult home situations. Flexible seating provides a welcoming, warm environment that gives students choices and comfort. It instills a sense of community, encouraging students to share work places and seating. Fostering collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, flexible seating allows students to take ownership in their own learning. It makes the classroom more inviting and learning even more fun, and academic scores and grades increase when students are able to focus their attention. Comfortable students are more engaged, calm, and ready to learn.
