My Students

I teach a computer applications class in a 1-to-1 Chromebook district. Despite our relatively idyllic suburban location, more than a third of our students come from low-income households. We are fortunate to have the technology that we do have. They have no standard computer curriculum prior to coming to my class, so they come to me with an astounding variety of skill levels. My class is there to make sure that all students are ready to fully unlock the potential of the technology in their hands. My students are eager to learn, and I am excited to show them exactly what they can do with their Chromebooks.

In my classroom, we are "turning Chromebooks into pencils." At one time in our lives, we all had to learn how to hold a pencil.

We all broke a few points along the way. Once we figured out how to hold it, we were able to write our name, draw pictures, stumble through our first love letter, and draft our first resume. The possibilities are endless! Chromebooks are not much different: once we learn how to use it, there's no limit to what we can do with them.

My Project

None of us sit at a stiff combination desk/chair when we are working on our computers at home! Why should we force our kids to do it at school? I am on a mission to give my students a pleasant and fun learning environment.

Flexible seating allows students to be more comfortable, focused, and alert.

I have collected various furniture items from neighbors over the years, but I have turned to DonorsChoose to help me expand our options. These fun and unique chairs will give students options beyond the standard seating found in most classrooms. Please help me create a more authentic working environment for my students!
