My students want to create new digital projects! The focus of my Computer Applications class is to teach students how to use various computer applications and then allow them to express themselves and their learning in different ways. We currently do not have a way to record audio or edit videos.
My school district is located within a rural community, and many students quality for free or reduced lunches.
My ninth-grade students love technology and embrace opportunities to use it at school. My students enjoy digital projects that incorporate their own interests into required learning, but they often do not have access to productivity software outside of school. My school district is supportive of using technology in the classroom but does not have the financial means to provide a lot of technology to students.
My Project
These resources will allow my students to try new productivity tools and create different types of projects. Camtasia will be used to record screenshots, edit video footage, create digital stories, and pull together various forms of media. The headset will allow students to narrate their own videos, presentations, and digital stories. The students in my leadership class will use Camtasia and the headset to create videos to promote school activities and then compile event images to create keepsake videos. Yearbook students, athletic teams, and other extracurricular groups will be able to use these resources to create end-of-season or end-of-year videos to show at banquets and assemblies. All of these students will learn new computer skills, including audio recording and video editing, which will benefit them in the future.
Ultimately, this project will give my students a new way to express themselves and their learning.
They will have the opportunity to create unique projects to share with friends, parents, and the entire community. Additionally, they will learn new technology skills that will help them succeed as they pursue the next steps in their lives.
