Let's Get Creative and Upgrade Old-School Book Reports!
Help me give my students a laminator, laminating pouches, and markers to assist them with creative alternatives to book reports that can spark imaginations, boost comprehension, and reignite a love for reading.
Creating book report covers with cardstock, markers and a laminator to share with other students, will encourage independent reading in my school! It will allow them to express their creativity and share their opinion of the books that they read. By creating book report covers, it will allow other students to be inspired to read the books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time. These book report covers will allow students to visualize their insights related to a book they’ve read, and “build non-linguistic representations of what a text is about,” which can lead to improved comprehension.
These one-pagers can help students “think deeply about a text” and use their creativity to “represent its most important aspect”, and students who create one-pagers often make a deeper connection to the text and have better retention of key concepts.
This “one-pager” approach, will challenge kids to summarize the story, the theme, characters, setting, and important symbols from the book, all on one page.
