My kids are a phenomenal group of sixth graders. They have unfortunately started a new school with altered circumstances. However, they have persevered. Each technology obstacle that arises, the kids have been so patient, well-behaved, and flexible. I tell them all the time how grateful and appreciative I am having them in my class.
I aim to create a classroom that feels warm and inviting to my students from the moment they see my door.
I have covered the walls with positive affirmations and hanging lights, which they love. When they come to my science class, we work hard, but we also have fun. However, with all the fears of covid-19, I still have some limitations to what I want to do with my students. It brings me joy that when they come into my class. For a moment I can bring a smile to their face, reduce their stress, calm their fears, and motivate them to learn about science. Every time I hear a student say they love my class and don't want to leave, I feel like I've done a good job to help them feel safe, even if just for a moment.
I am a very interactive science teacher. However, with covid-19, I must stand in a corner away from everyone and still be close enough to the mic and camera for my online kids. I have found myself sitting a lot because my feet, knees, and back hurt to stand all day. The desk converter and anti-fatigue mat will allow me to stand up longer so that I can teach more effectively and interactively for my students in the classroom and online. The building my classroom is in is very old and the internet works sometimes. Each day there are different challenges we all have to overcome. The school has provided several Ethernet cords for my students to use, but none of their computers have an Ethernet port. Therefore, when they can't connect to the WiFi, they are limited at completing their online activities. This includes their virtual science labs and inter-activities connected to the E-text. The adapters would allow my students to connect their computers and have reliable internet throughout the period.
By donating to this project, you will help the students receive a more effective and interactive science lesson.
The materials I am requesting will help all my students be more engaged and have fun in science. Having the adapters allows my students to be able to focus on the content of the lesson and not trying to get their computers working. I try to have a fun and inviting classroom and lesson so that all the students are engaged. Being able to get back to standing and moving around in a safe place without hurting helps me be a better teacher for all of my kids.
