This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have a high level of curiosity, and their energy is abundant. These children are from diverse backgrounds and households, and many have a unique set of needs and challenges to overcome. We have a high population of at-risk students: socially, emotionally, and academically. However, there is also a high desire to be cooperative, respectful, and successful students.
My students' potential is limitless, and I see future artists, engineers, computer scientists, athletes, and teachers.
My second-grade scholars have awesome determination. The academic growth that many are experiencing is remarkable because they have the ability and desire to acquire and apply the skills necessary to be successful.
My students inspire me to find creative and innovative ways to enhance their educational opportunities and showcase their unique talents.
My Project
I want to ignite a passion for STEM in my second-graders by providing books, games, and activities that will benefit them in their future career choices by teaching them the language of computer scientists.
Students who learn the basic concepts of coding will be better able to problem-solve and think creatively.
My project has books and activities that are fun but also teach simple algorithmic thinking without the use of a computer. These fundamental concepts of coding and programming will be applied to exciting learning activities.
Hello, Ruby, a book by Linda Liukas, will teach the basics of computer programming like breaking big problems into small ones and creating step-by-step plans. The Let's Go Code! will introduce sequencing and improve gross motor skills.
My students do inspire me to find innovative ways to increase learning and the best way I have found is through play!
