This project will allow me to take our learning further by providing students a hands-on experience. We are learning about bread and other bakery related items. I would like to create experiences where students can bake their own breads, cookies, and cake. Young learners love hands on learning, and I know this hands-on experience will have an everlasting impact on them.
There are many skills which are naturally learned while cooking and baking, such as mathematical thinking, problem solving, scientific discovery and fine motor development.
Students will measure and compare different ingredients using the measuring spoons and cups. They will witness the chemical reactions which take place when different ingredients are added together in the mixing bowls while using the whisks and mixing spoons. They will problem solve as they work together with peers and might even create their own recipes. They will use their fine motor skills as they knead, roll, cut and pinch the dough using rolling pins and knives.
