Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school is an adjustment for all grades: in 6th grade students are adjusting and navigating a school march larger and different than elementary school, in 7th grade, students are no longer the "New Kids," but not yet the 8th graders, and my 8th graders are excited to be looking forward to high school and their futures! One thing that all of my students have in common is their creativity in expressing themselves! Whether it is through art, fashion, music or even hairstyles, my students are always looking for outlets to express themselves.
What I love and admire about my students is their passion for creativity that goes far beyond the classroom!
My students are always looking for hands on opportunities to express themselves. I even believe that pulling art and design into my classroom has changed the environment of my classroom for the better. It seems that when students are given an outlet for expression and creativity, they are more relaxed and ready to learn.
My Project
This project will greatly improve the environment and the overall mood of my classroom. My students work very very hard on classroom assignments during the week, where they can earn points to redeem for a little "Free Choice Fridays," where they can choose from a variety of options that they are interested in. The quality of work has greatly improved since implementing this system in my classroom and I can tell that my students are truly motivated.
Art gives my students a sense of relaxation and freedom.
Lately, my students seem to be interested in art, whether it is coloring, drawing, or creating things with scrap paper, they definitely seemed to be very interested in hands on activities. This is an area where resources are limited in my classroom. I try my best to print off coloring sheets, or find art projects that require little to no money to create, however I would to be able to provide my students with even more materials and projects for them to show their creativity.
