Help me give my students an iPad for the best instructional math videos so that students that cannot/don’t come to school can benefit from modeled examples and instructional help that they would not get on their own!
My high school students are incredibly worldly. They have a strength that is powerful. The students are working hard to get to where they need to be; I will hear them in the halls talking about how life is going and how “this isn’t the time to slack off, let’s just get through it.” The experiences that they have are completely different then the students you would get at a suburban district school; even from my own personal experience in school. They are so technologically savvy and absolutely love/ benefit from Technology in the classroom; to them it aids their need to balance work, school, home, etc. Most students are not coming to class, so we are constantly in search of ways to reach those students in particular. Many students work or babysit to help their families out, affecting their attendance and work completion even further. There are mixed effects of COVID learning; handfuls of students thrive from the online learning, but most others have seen struggles. The students that normally would need/get an extra little push in school, can struggle finding motivation to do their work outside of school; causing them further gaps in STEM education for students.
My Project
This iPad will help better my instruction, as well as make my work more efficient. Over the last multiple weeks I have been looking into many technology sources that would make online instruction more engaging and would also allow me as a teacher to get the formative asssessments that I need, and make videos using screen recordings/audio already incorporated. This project will be using the iPad to make resources specifically targeting the students not getting any type of instruction at home, and also who are not coming to class or doing any work when they miss so much instruction. The iPad allows me to use a iPad “phone number” as well, which will help me better communicate with parents without giving out personal contact information. The videos will not only help students that are behind catch up, but also prevent as much repetition. The iPad works like a computer as well, which will allow me to edit videos I make, all in one spot! Instead of working with multiple resources and wasting time uploading anything, this iPad will have everything I need for teaching in one place too.
