I'm a school-based occupational therapist that works with special needs students that are 3, 4, and 5 years old in the preschool setting. My kiddos complete school-based occupational therapy activities in order to improve the following skills: visual motor, fine motor, visual perception, social skills, and sensory processing skills.
My Project
Some of my students who have decreased awareness will benefit from safety scissors while first learning to hold and manipulate scissors. Some of my kindergarten bound students will benefit from the use of adapted pencils, in which the wishbone shaped body naturally shapes the fingers into a functional "tripod" finger grasp.
The individual activity booklets each focus on one skill at a time to help develop fine motor control, including learning to safely use scissors, folding paper, coloring, and pasting .
This way, students can learn a specific skill in isolation before asking to use them in multiple steps on later tasks.
