My Students

My school is located just outside the city limits of St. Louis, MO. Student come from a very diverse background of economics and ethnicity. They are always eager to learn and try new things. Some of them have significant trauma at home and school is a safe, fun place to be. All students can get a free breakfast, lunch, and lots of love and learning at school. They sometimes need help with supplies, as their families struggle with providing them. With added support, they are able to learn more.

My Project

Many of my students come from some significant trauma even homelessness. At times they can struggle with self-regulation. We have a class chill zone they can go to until they are calm and regulated. These Sensory Tools will be available to help them. They will also be used during whole group instruction to help students with attention concerns focus. We are working on teaching children to self-regulate so they can focus and learn more. Teaching the whole child is important especially when children come from trauma backgrounds. Sensory Tools that can help them can be expensive and hard to find. I always want some available to children who need them.
