My students need a Chromebook to help "flip" my class. The Chromebook will be used by students who do not have adequate resources at home to complete their assignments.
Have you ever known or even been the student who is unable to complete an assignment because you didn't have the internet or a computer at home? Unfortunately, what many of us take for granted as a modern day staple is still out of reach for those less fortunate.
I am very fortunate to teach math to 150 of the brightest 6th and 7th grade students every day!
I have a very diverse group of students who come from all different backgrounds. They range in abilities from those who struggle with basic math up to those who excel in honors courses. My school district and our community are incredibly supportive of our schools, teachers and students.
My Project
With the new common core standards, we are asking our students to dig deep and do much more exploring with the math content being taught. I would like my students to have the opportunity to "flip the classroom."
Flipping the classroom is a teaching strategy where the instruction is delivered to the students when they are at home. This strategy allows the teacher to spend more time with students when they are practicing and mastering the concepts at school.
Unfortunately, not all students have the resources to be able to go online to watch the instruction that is being asked to them at home. That is why I am asking for a Chromebook. The Chromebook will help me be able to give all students an equal opportunity to watch the lessons to help them be successful in my classroom.
I need all students to have the resources to watch my direct instruction.
There are some lessons where my students are asked to watch and take notes at home. That way they have the opportunity to practice the concepts with the teacher. If all students have this opportunity, the level of questioning can increase significantly because the teacher will be there for support.
This cannot happen if all students do not have access to a computer and to the internet.
