This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an inner city school with a very diverse population. All of the students live in the neighborhood, yet some are middle class and others are homeless. Regardless of their home lives, they all come to school every day, eager to learn something new.
My students are, simply put, amazing!
They push me out of my comfort zone and make me want to be a better teacher. Every challenge I've given them they've not only met, but surpassed. I am so lucky that I get to be their teacher.
My Project
This project will provide each student with 32 issues of a weekly magazine that will support our science and social studies curriculums. Students will also have access to videos and printable activities to support learning.
When learning is connected, students are able to retain more of what they learn.
These magazines and supporting videos connect to themes that we already learn in kindergarten - rules, friends, sharing, seasons, fire safety, trees, holidays, animals, weather, health, earth, and safety.
In addition to themed learning, these magazines will support state standards and early reading skills such as the development of concepts of print, letters, sounds, rhyming words, main idea and details, critical thinking skills, and text features.
