This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Kindergarten students come to school everyday excited to learn. We are an active and busy classroom with a lot of energy! I want my students to leave Kindergarten having had an interactive and fun educational experience.

My students live in an inner city and low-income neighborhood, and come from different cultural backgrounds.

Many of my students came to Kindergarten with no educational experiences. For many of them Kindergarten is their first time in an educational setting. Also, a quarter of students in my classroom are English Language Learners. A handful of students have difficulty concentrating and staying focused. We incorporate a lot of movement and interactive learning to keep students engaged. My students come to school every day eager and excited to learn. Although they may face challenges, they are excited to be a part of a community. We are a team in my classroom. Everyone helps each other. I want to instill a sense of belonging to my students, and hope they know they are cared for.

My Project

The neighborhood my school is in is low income, and many of my students do not get many educational experiences outside of school. I will be able to teach the subject areas of English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math by using the magazine and build a foundation for developing critical language and literacy skills. Let’s Find Out provides children with motivating, high-interest science and social studies articles. Each issue is built on a firm foundation of skills that reinforces the classroom curriculum and meets the Common Core Standards. My students will develop listening skills through shared reading and read aloud. They will experience reading as an enjoyable and useful activity. They will develop oral language skills by listening and responding to a speaker and by asking and answering questions. They will also learn age appropriate science and social studies skills, as well as participate in center based science and social studies activities.

Having the Let's Find Out magazine available to my classroom will allow me to provide an additional science and social studies resource to my students.

Building their knowledge of science, social studies and non-fiction texts will enrich their learning. It will provide my students with additional experiences and language that they may otherwise not have. In addition to the paper magazine, there are online resources, and videos that bring the magazine to life!
