I absolutely love teaching kindergarten! Our community is very supportive of children and their education. However, we are finding many students arrive to school unprepared socially and academically. All kindergarten parents have the same goals: keep my child safe and teach them how to read.
More and more students are arriving to my kindergarten classroom without having at least 2000 or more books read to them while growing up at home.
Reading to children during their formative years is a huge indicator for success in learning. As I start a new school year with my classroom, they soon learn to love my read aloud time to them. Providing these young learners with a variety of literacy is a focus of mine and I am intentional with the literature I choose to read to them.
I love reading to my students! I read many books each day to my students. Finding kindergarten text which is engaging and meets our curriculum and cultural learning targets is challenging and time-consuming. Especially difficult is finding nonfiction text which is informative as well as culturally relevant. Let's Find Out weekly reader meets all of our needs.
