My Project
We have lots of raised beds in our raised bed garden, and while they look awesome and are easy to grow in, they do require a lot of soil to fill them. We do not have soil that we can gather at our school, so we have to purchase it from elsewhere. We got a load of mulch that is almost used up that we used in the raised beds, but we still have a lot to fill.
The students have been working hard every class period to get our beds ready for planting, but we still need more fill to add.
The coco coir is a great addition to any raised bed because it helps with water retention without becoming a soggy mess. The kids also love rehydrating the blocks because it's like an alien coming alive! The worm castings will be used as a top dress fertilizer and the net will be used to catch the chickens that keep dust bathing in our beds! My students are hard workers, and we have a large garden to take care of, but they are eager to come to class and get things done so that the garden is beautiful and produces lots of food for us to eat!
