Our Head Start classroom is full of 18 kind, caring, eager to learn individuals. Each day we are scientists, mathematicians, musicians, readers, creators, and much more.
My students have big dreams, including being a doctor, a teacher, and a professional hockey player.
Despite coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds and having a myriad of different learning styles, my students come together each day to achieve personal goals and celebrate the success of their peers. One of the best things about our classroom is the sense of community each child feels when we meet each day.
My Project
Having a Light Table Center in our classroom will offer a new way for my students to learn. The Table-top Light Panel will allow the students to see through the materials that they use with it. The lights will provide different ways and different materials to observe. We currently have dominoes, magna-tiles, and counters that the students will be able to use with the Light Panel. They will be able to observe how the lights change the look of these materials and also hone their math skills in geometry and counting. Having a small table to use this panel at will allow the students to take a break from the hustle and bustle of a busy classroom by exploring on their own or with one other peer.
