Help me give my students an "Art Exploration Center" stocked with a variety of art materials and games to explore color, line, texture, weaving, and 3-D construction.
I teach the integrated arts to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, though I am primarily certified in music education.
Through music, visual art, dance, and drama, we explore creativity, build teamwork, and develop a strong work ethic.
I design my curriculum to allow students to explore a wide variety of instruments and expose them to a wide variety of music styles and diverse cultures.
My school is located in a rural area. We have 504 students in grades K-5 and 47.7% qualify for free and reduced-priced lunch.
My Project
The materials I am requesting already have a home. I have an empty shelf in my room destined to become an Art Exploration Center. With your help, I plan to stock this shelf with games and activities to encourage hands-on learning and discovery in the art room.
The Art Exploration Center will be used a reward incentive when students have completed their art assignment and their clean-up jobs.
Students may explore art concepts such as color and pattern with the puzzles and blocks. They will improve fine motor skills with lacing games and a weaving loom. They will explore texture with the rubbing plates. They will explore 3-D forms with the mannequins and magnet blocks. Also, the LCD boards will be an environmentally friendly option to practice drawing.
I hope the new materials will encourage students to stay focused on their art project so they may earn the reward to visit the Art Exploration Center. I hope these extra activities will eliminate behavior issues that sometimes arise when students finish early. I'm certain this new center will be a positive addition to our classroom.
