Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I elementary school located in New York City. My school is filled with children of diverse backgrounds and needs. These students are passionate about learning and our school community. They were always eager to enter school, greet one another, and find out what learning has been taking place. We are so excited to reunite with one another this school year.
My students have exhibited incredible determination, passion, and eagerness to learn throughout the pandemic.
The love of learning these students have exhibited is inspiring!
Our school also strives to promote health and wellness as well as creativity. We provide our students with experiences in visual arts, music, and dance as well as a wellness committee, running club, and well-rounded physical education.
My Project
I always share with my class my love of escaping into a great book. The addition of these books will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create to help my students experience this too. The inclusion of diverse books in our classroom library will make it a space my students really enjoy visiting-- instilling a love of reading forever!
With these new books, my students will be able to select titles on their reading level which also piques his or her interests too.
All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-- selecting them based on their interests and diverse reading levels. The wide range of books to choose from for independent reading will ensure they are able to find a book that will teach about a topic that fascinates them or escape into another time or world.
Students are also taught the value of great books. We discuss the importance of show responsibility and respect when checking books out of our library. All books placed in our library are treated with love and care, and the class is thankful for the opportunities to read escape into these great books.
