My Students

I teach in a low income district where students from various backgrounds come to school to learn. My third-grade students learn in many different ways. Engaging my students in learning is a way for them to forget their troubles and grow and learn to the best of their ability.

My students are comprised of energy, cultural diversity, varying academic abilities, happiness, sadness, and a zest for learning.

They need to be taught in a way that reaches them. They need to be presented information in diverse and engaging ways. STEM activities grab their attention and increases their engagement. Hands-on, critical thinking, and cooperative learning tasks creates a classroom of engaged learners who are able to show their skills in various ways.

My Project

Students in my third grade classroom have a lot of energy and many ideas. These materials will allow the students to be creative in their problem solving skills and will allow students to show their skills in their own way.

Past STEM challenges have amazed me; students are able to creatively solve a problem while using the Engineering Design Process -- as third graders!

Their problem solving skills, which are not evident in a "paper and pencil only" classroom, allow all students to excel and get excited about learning. These activities enhance real life problem solving skills and build confidence in learning.

STEM project ideas and STEM project kits will add energy to our current STEM activities. Building windmills and cars will not only challenge students' critical thinking skills, but will also allow for discussion regarding the physics behind how these everyday real-life machines work. Students will be able to apply this learning to real life experiences.
