This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In New Orleans for two and a half years, my classroom has been housed in a temporary building and we had just moved to our new building when we had to immediately go to distance learning. The majority of my students come from diverse backgrounds and low-income households. All of my students qualify for free lunch. My students' parents are on board, but they cannot provide support for us as they are working two or more jobs at a time. Some students have no support from family and therefore, we need your support.
My K-5 students value the unique culture of New Orleans, believe in fairness, equity and inclusion, and they are also excited about learning how to excel in school.
This pandemic should not limit their abilities or expectations. They have set high goals for themselves. It is needed for their social-emotional health!
Please help me deliver the puzzle games and play dough sets for my students. We need these for supporting distant learning as it will make a difference in their lives while learning from home. It is essential for my gifted boys and girls to have fun while we do hybrid learning during the pandemic.
My Project
In New Orleans I am requesting creative play dough sets for my students who come from diverse backgrounds. The play dough sets will be used for distance learning. I would definitely recommend puzzles and play dough sets for anyone starting out with kids during a pandemic.
The play dough set is a popular outdoor activity kit for boys and girls and will benefit them when creating with family.
Students will use the puzzle kits along with the play dough and learn about creating the insects and bugs they view outdoors while doing nature study. It will benefit their emotional well-being and provide a soothing, engaging activity during these stressful times.
They will develop self-confidence as they tackle challenges of these times and learn how to be kind and be a winner! In New Orleans, about 99% of my gifted students depend on the free lunch program, and I am so worried that they will lag in their academics as a result of the school closing. These are not easy times with their parents juggling two or more jobs and trying to keep up with distant learning. Creating nice replicas of bugs and insects and being outdoors observing nature will be great for keeping students engaged in their learning while having fun!
