This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am blessed to teach amazing children at a Title I span school (Grades Tk-8). Many of our students come from low income families and receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper. The mission of our school is to provide a world-class education for all students by ensuring a safe, nurturing, and collaborative student-centered environment that fosters student achievement, values effort, and promotes social justice.
My students are curious, creative, and come to school eager to learn.
My Project
As a teacher, it is important that I foster a love of reading in all of my students. This is done through modeling my own love of reading, reading aloud to my students, discussing characters and issues within our books, and providing ample time for my students to read each and every day. The best way to do this is to ensure that my library provides students with opportunities to read and learn about books they can relate to, as well as books that make them aware of the cultures around us.
A diverse library brings people together regardless of culture and ethnicity.
It promotes unity and multicultural perspectives. The books I've selected for this project can help me achieve this with my group of learners. We will take a close look at the characters and see that, despite our cultural differences, there are many common traits that we share.
