Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The majority of my high school students come from low-income backgrounds. Reading "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance is necessary to further their secondary education.

The book offers insights into a culture and lifestyle that may be unfamiliar to many students.

It sheds light on the struggles, values, and experiences of people living in rural Appalachia and the Rust Belt. The themes of poverty, family dynamics, addiction, and the American Dream will be some of the topics that we will explore.

The protagonist's journey from a troubled upbringing to achieving academic and professional success despite immense odds will inspire my students facing their own challenges. The memoir offers valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the importance of education. Most of my students encounter similar issues and the memoir will plant seeds of determination and courage.
