My students need colored pencils, glue, card stock, and craft sticks to complete several hands-on activities in Housing & Interior Design class, including creating a house from craft sticks and building a tiny house from card stock.

My Students
My students are from a high-poverty area of Arkansas in the Mississippi Delta. When the elements and principles of design are presented in their Housing & Interior Design class, they are often subjects that are unfamiliar to them.
When teaching Housing & Interior Design, I want to encourage my students to become acquainted with all aspects of design.
I want them to use what they learn about the elements and principles of design by applying it to various hands-on projects. Many of my students are kinesthetic learners and using the information presented to them in new and creative ways will reinforce their understanding. In turn, they will notice and appreciate design in the world around them.
My Project
When so many students are kinesthetic learners, it is always a good idea to supplement information presented in the form of notes or "book work" with hands-on activities to reinforce the information.
To reinforce students' understanding of the elements and principles of design, I want my students to design and create both a house made of craft sticks and a card stock tiny house.
I believe both of these projects will help students not only understand the basics of design, but also give them a chance to create a design of their own and see these concepts applied to their final product.
