This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an Upper Autism class between the ages of 7 and 9. Our students are energetic and full of a want to thrive. Each child comes to school with such a positive attitude despite their needs. Some days are tough and that's what makes us learn and grow. As a whole, we are learning that hard work pays off and that we are each special in our own way.
A quote in our classroom is "Why fit in, when you were born to stand out" by Dr. Seuss.
This is a reminder that though our abilities might be different than others, we are proud to be ourselves. Each student in our classroom has a different need. Some of us need extra time to finish our work. Others need simpler instructions. Some of us are visual learners and others are auditory learners. We are all learning to understand our emotions. I am teaching them, but they are also teaching me. I am so proud of the kind of human beings they've become. They are kind and so helpful all the time. All in all, we are all so proud of what we are accomplishing.
My Project
The Cricut is not just for the teacher to use. This machine will allow the students to choose their favorite images, shapes, characters, letters, etc. and see them being cut out. The technology behind this process can be intriguing and is a great way to explain new technological advances of our time. This could even lead some of my students to become interested in careers such as graphic design. The possibilities are endless!
Art in the classroom is essential for critical thinking skills, collaboration, and creativity.
The Cricut will create endless artistic possibilities and as a teacher, this is important to me. Art can enhance my students' creativity in all subject areas. We have specifically designed our classroom to display student work in each subject area. With the Cricut, I can create banners to decorate each board. We also focus one day of the week to explore art and its many concepts. Holidays and special dates are a great time to create and decorate our classroom as well. I am so excited to see how this machine can change the way I plan projects and the new things my students will be able to create.
