Help me give my students 600 KEVA building planks and two large bags of the Makedo Cardboard Construction Toolsets to bring the "Art" in STEAM into my classroom!
I serve two rolls in my school. One roll is a Math Specialist where I focus a large amount of my attention on grades kindergarten through second. I support our struggling learners and provide extensions for the students who need to be challenged. My second roll is a Morning Jive instructor. Morning Jive is an hour in the morning where I work with one or two classes while groups of teachers meet to go over data and figure out next steps for their students.
Between my two rolls, I have the opportunity to reach about 400 students and share my passion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with them.
The best part is seeing how excited they get with each new challenge. It is also encouraging to see how their skills of collaboration and communication are improving throughout the course of the year.
One of my goals as an educator is to give my students experiences that will light a flame in their hearts and lead them into a future profession they will love as much as I love teaching. The new tools that I am asking for will help me do just that!
My Project
I am asking for the KEVA building blanks and the Makedo cardboard construction kits because they are an engaging way to bring the 4 Cs- critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity into my classroom.
Children love to use their imaginations and create something new and through the use of these tools, they get to do just that!
Think about it this way., you have Classroom A and Classroom B. Both classrooms are asked to design new playground equipment in place of the broken, outdated equipment, they already have. The students will work in teams and use the engineering process as well as the measurement skills, they have just learned in math, to develop something that will be fun and appropriate for kindergarten through fifth graders. Classroom A only has paper, crayons, and markers to complete the task, but Classroom B has KEVA planks and the Makedo cardboard construction kits to construct a 3D model. Which class would you want to be in? Classroom B, right? Please help me create this classroom!
