Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school opened its doors in 1950, and if you attended our school in 1950, nothing has changed. So here I am a 21st century Language Arts teacher trying her best to motivate my students to write and create activities and projects which will reflect their best efforts.
My 197 students are a fantastic grouping.
I have 3 classes of Freshmen Development(Inquiry), 3 classes of English Honors/Pre-IB English Honors Gifted mixed, and 1 class of 11 grade Honors Gifted who eat up projects. Most of the time I run leaps and bounds to keep up with their creativity levels. My high school is a multi-ethnic school of 3400 students located in Florida, 60% of our students are on free or reduced price lunch. So I am constantly supplying their needs with crayons, markers, highlighters, construction paper, scissors, etc.
My Project
I have many projects planned for the school year, projects which will show family values, self esteem, and motivation. Some of the projects will be students creating their family coat of arms, self portraits, character portraits, summer reading projects, independent reading projects, story masks, origami story books, student original mini story books, etc. We need markers, colored pencils, construction paper, scissors and glue sticks.
This project will greatly impact my students as many of them cannot afford to purchase supplies.
However, with help from DonorsChoose we can remove the obstacles, so that the materials are here, and not just a few students have access, but all students.
