"Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable."
- Pollard
Let the innovation begin!
We are so excited to open our STEAM/STEM Lab and Maker's Space for all students to access. Our school is full of energetic innovators ready to be set free in an environment where they are free to explore, create and collaborate. As a staff, we know that science, technology, engineering the arts and mathematics are the future. We are preparing our students to be 21st century learners. We want to give our students the ability to take their love of learning and truly explore the application of these areas.
We serve students in grades K-6 who are very diverse in their cultures. For some of our students, their only exposure to technology happens during their school day. Through our STEAM Lab, we hope to allow them to truly experience what it means to be engaged in hands-on, problem-based learning. This will prepare them for a future that is changing each and every day.
My Project
In order for us to truly allow our students to prepare for the future, they need exposure to science and technology while integrating engineering and the art through the use of mathematical thinking. The best way for them to do this is to make and create in order to solve problems. Through our Maker's Space students will be able to create circuits, build structures, explore motion and sound and simply learn about how the world works.
Students can only do so much with paper and pencil. Learning is about using your hands, creating, learning from mistakes and trying over and over again. How do you know that one bridge structure is more stable than another? Our students will be able to create their own structures and figure out the answers to that questions. We want our students to be maker's. We want them to think and create. We want them to answer the questions through inquiry.
We are living in a world of growth.
Our lives are deeply rooted in technology. For those that do not have the same exposure as others to science and technology the future seems much more distant. If all our students are allowed to enter the STEM lab, be free to learn and explore, they will all be allowed to call the future their own. We will be preparing them to be 21st century learners and thinkers. Will you help us make this happen?
