A break zone will be a great zone! My students receive specialized educational instruction for a variety of needs based on their individual learning plans. Many of the students benefit from taking short breaks throughout the day and utilizing flexible seating while completing work. Providing students with an area to move, rock, complete puzzles, read, or relax enhances student learning and productivity. Learning to take a break and get back to work is a life long skill. Help us create a place where my students can learn this skill.
My Project
With these supplies, my students will learn to take a break so that they are able to return to work and learn. Learning this life long skill will help them learn how to self regulate, improve their academic engagement and overall resilience when faced with difficult tasks.
When students face frustration in the larger classroom, at times disrupting the learning of others as well as their own learning, a structured break system can be implemented.
This is when a student can come to my resource room and 'check in' for a 10 minute break, utilizing a number of break options such as slime or rocking in a chair. After a short break, they are offered options of returning to class, completing work with me or discussing their frustrations. These chairs and materials will help me create a safe and relaxing place for my students to learn how to regulate.
