Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is in a densely populated urban industrial area. All my students qualify for free lunch. Our school is a public primary center with eight kindergarten classes, two transitional kindergarten classes, and 2 pre-school classes.

My students are a mix of shy, energetic, curious little beings who are interested in a variety of new experiences, but mostly love playing and recess.

They are English Language Learners and Standard English Learners.

Some of my students have been to pre-school, but for others this is their first school experience. There is an enormous difference in my students' abilities, ranging from students just learning how to hold a pencil to students who can write a simple sentence.

Although they have varying abilities, my students have an inquisitive nature. They ask questions and wonder about new things they encounter. They love learning and finding answers, especially through fun play.

My Project

In Kindergarten we are learning to count accurately. The tools I have selected will help students practice numeracy skills though play. The resources are also great because they are self checking. Additionally, the math tools I am asking for will help students with their fine motor skills.

My young students love hands-on math tools and will naturally count through play.

With the counting cars and peg numbers students will happily load pegs to match the numerals on the cars or the peg board. The number stamps will encourage them to stamp away, then work on writing numerals correctly. The place value mats will be great to challenge students to build numbers using our base-ten manipulatives. I have selected math tools and games to encourage all my students to count repeatedly through play. They'll love counting over and over again with these resources!
