My Project
In Kindergarten, our math standards call for learning about pennies and dimes. We will also build schema and background knowledge about other types of money throughout the year.
Realistic, but pretend, pennies and dimes will allow my Kindergarten students to learn about the features of the coins in a kinesthetic, safe way.
Learning math concepts using manipulatives that are hands on is the most efficient way to make meaning of what we are learning, targeting multiple senses. Ensuring that the play coins look real is important and something our classroom is currently lacking.
