Lets Cook, Bake, and Celebrate Unity through Community
Help me give my students an Electric Indoor Searing Grill, Panini Press Grill Indoor, and Storage Cabinet to be their own chef for our school unity festival.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A majority of my students come from families with limited resources. Many of them have been challenged socially and emotionally over the past few years. My middle school students are in a critical need to experience as much STEM PBL as possible, to be prepared to compete with their STEM global competitors in their near future.
As our school celebrates the end of the year Unity Through Community Festival, I want my students to feel the joy and delightful anticipation that food always sparks within them while practicing their math skills.
Cooking new recipes help my students develop a positive connection to all types of food while benefiting their health and academic success.
My students will create and design advertisement and menus with different cultural foods. Throughout this process, my students will be engaged, take ownership of their learning, and get to learn from each other. Planning for food for the day of Unity Festival, will enable my students to learn how to manage their budget while learning how to calculate the tax and tip.
This project will allow my students to further expand their daily living skills by being able to cook for themselves using the Panini Grill and Electric grill. They will have the opportunity to have hands-on experiences with cooking while learning math.
My students will use the storage cabinets to store the cooking materials, required ingredients, utensils, and cleaning supplies for the day of Unity Festival. We use the storage cabinets to store the remaining materials and the two Electric Grills for the coming years.
