My Students
My students live in Washington, DC. Our students are Hispanic and African-American. They are limited in resources, with over 90% of them qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. They come from low-income neighborhoods in the Washington, DC area. Our public elementary school needs a variety of learning opportunities for quality engagement, challenge, and motivation in order to best function. We know supporting our students in this stage of their development can be the turning point for our students. We offer an alternative education that empowers our students to believe in themselves and their ability to positively impact the world.
My Project
I am an intervention resource teacher and 95 percent of the students I support come from low-income families. The students are returning back to in-person learning after being virtual for over a year and a half. I would like to help the students transition back to in-person learning by eliminating the stress of obtaining basic schools supplies such as composition books, pencils, crayons, color markers, paper and scissors. The students have not had to use these types of supplies for over a year. I would love to be able to help them with a smooth transition.
