My Students

Our school is located in one of the biggest cities in the world, New York. While air quality outdoors is better than it was when I was in school, there's still a long way to go. Indoor air can be an even bigger problem. Whether my students realize it or not, the quality of the air we breathe impacts health, concentration, and even learning.

Just like me, many of my students are sensitive, or have allergies to the pollutants in our air - dust, exhaust from combustion engines, and ozone.

In the classroom, it's hard to keep things clean. Every surface gathers a thin gray film after a few days, and it's difficult to keep up.

My Project

My students deserve to learn in a healthy environment. I myself suffer from allergies to dust and other airborne pollutants, and I've seen the same signs in my students - frequently blowing noses, or worse, snorting up mucus, coughing, and frequent colds and absences. These things all get in the way of focused learning. I've tried being a vigilant duster, and encouraged my students to help, but in a classroom used by over 100 students per day, filled with the books and tools for learning, it's just not possible to effectively keep everything allergen-free.

Indoor pollution can be a bigger problem than what is outdoors, even in a city like ours, so a HEPA filter will help me keep the room cleaner, and therefore keep my students healthier.

Education is the key to unlocking opportunity for my students and making our communities stronger. For the few hours a day students are in my room, they should have the best quality of air so they can be healthy, and at their best to learn. Please help me maintain a cleaner learning environment for my students!
