Planet Second Grade is a classroom that prioritizes the body, mind, and heart in order for us to learn. Last year, we specifically focused on social-emotional learning.
We meditate in order to reach our highest potential in learning.
This social-emotional practice is important to us because it teaches us about our own emotions so we can be the best students.
We are a family of learners who empower each other so we may all be the best in math, spelling, reading, and writing.
My Project
Last year, I began meditating and moving intentionally with my second graders. They started to identify their emotions and empathize with others. This is when I realized that ALL students deserve access to these types of skills and knowledge about themselves and others.
Attending this training will be the beginning of a life long dedication to mindfulness workshops for low income or minority students who deserve to have tools to self regulate their emotions, understand their bodies, and build community with each other.
This is so urgent for our students of color and it could make a difference in their academic success.
