My Project

My classroom is made up of a majority of students who identify as Asian or Pacific Islander, and it is vital that our classroom library includes literature that showcases their cultures or is written by authors with similar backgrounds and experiences.

I have created a list of books written by Asian and Pacific Islander authors so that our library is filled with books that are representative of my students.

I made this DonorsChoose with the hope of fostering a love for reading, promoting cultural identity, and enhancing students' understanding of their own stories and experiences.

My students get so excited and proud when they realize any piece of media is created by someone similar to them. They often will double check with me- "Is this book really written by someone Filipino??" or even get excited- "I can't wait to tell my Mom about this story!!". These experiences pushed me to create an even more diverse library, so that students have a plethora of stories to explore.
