Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, with 100% receiving free lunches, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful hands-on learning experiences through developmentally appropriate play.
My students love working with new and exciting materials which they wouldn't have access to at home.
During their play, the children are able to develop stronger communication and the ability to make decisions. With our second language learners, it allows them to increase their vocabulary and enhances oral language skills.
My Project
Through Donors Choose/"Let's Build" , I would like to acquire magnet-tiles for my students to use collaboratively during our purposeful play centers. My purposeful play supports executive function skills by engaging students with new and exciting opportunities to explore, design, and develop their background knowledge of their community. I would like my students to use the magnet tiles to work together to build their neighborhood including hospitals, stores, schools, houses etc. Using their imagination with the magnetic tiles, they will construct while learning about shapes, 3D shapes, color, balance, size, and the science of how magnets work while improving focus and stamina.
