As the new STEM teacher in a NYC elementary school, I teach grades K - 5 from diverse backgrounds and with a range of abilities. STEM integrates elements of science, technology, engineering, and math, using those elements for problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific inquiry.
STEM makes learning fun, keeps students engaged, and will guide our children towards becoming the world’s future scientists and engineers!
Classes in all grades will be working together on science and engineering challenges highlighting creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. As students navigate working with partners or groups, they also become more proficient at social-emotional learning skills such as good sportsmanship, sharing materials and ideas, compromising, being good speakers and listeners, treating others with respect, and perseverance.
There is no shortage of enthusiasm in my students, but there is shortage of engineering supplies and materials in my STEM Lab. With large classes, there are not enough materials to adequately tackle our engineering challenges. Lego kits are the perfect tool to allow students to design, build, assess, improve, and share their successes.
My students are the future STEM scientists and engineers. Please help me build their futures with Lego!
