My Students

Did you ever wonder why all kids don't bother with athletics? The Skillastic products gets students involved and they don't even realize they are learning how to play the game!

The school is in an urban area in which 72% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Since the introduction of team sports, many children have learned how to cooperate and work together. I have also been able to encourage other teachers in the school to participate.

My Project

Over the last two years, my students have been plagued with increased gang activity around the school. In order for my students to experience continued improvement in both volleyball and basketball, I believe the Skillastic products will aid in this quest. It will make it possible for the students to develop the life-long, healthy skills in volleyball and further develop their basketball skills. For the little ones, it will begin the process of teaching how to focus, cooperate and follow directions. It will also build pride in their community, self-confidence, and an alternative to gangs and violence after school.

The full funding of this project will foster an opportunity to the community to have recreational programs for parents and their children.

We will be able to expand our after school program offerings. The regular classroom teachers will be able to utilize the Skillastic products during recess.
