My Project
Our society often associates "being good at math" with mastery of procedures and quick calculations, but in the 21st century, math is SO much more than that! Remember when our math teachers used to say, "You're not always going to have a calculator with you!"? Well… who's going to tell Mrs. Sanderson?
In today’s digital age, conceptual understanding in mathematics is far more valuable than rote memorization, repetitive procedures, or applying formulas.
By providing calculators, we give students a tool that builds confidence rather than dependence. Many students use calculators not just for computation, but as a way to verify their own thinking. Having one readily available would help affirm their mental math skills and give them confidence in their mathematical reasoning. With this support, it will alleviate some anxiety and allow students to focus more on showing mastery in interpreting results, recognizing patterns, and making meaningful connections.
I’m asking for your support in providing classroom calculators to help my roughly 150 students build confidence in their mathematical abilities. By making this tool accessible, we can shift the focus from mere calculations to deeper understanding, problem-solving skills, and real-world applications. Your generosity will help cultivate strong math identities in my students and empowering them to see themselves as capable mathematicians!
